![]() ![]() The rotation facility on SMplayer worked very well for me so I guess my system's hardware is reasonably capable at handling video playback. For me that is not too serious, I was only trying it out as an experiment and would normally only record movies in a landscape format (and SMplayer makes a good job of playing back those). It certainly is a good bit of software so I'll likely keep it at least for a while but it falls down on one thing when compared with Celluloid - movies created on my smartphone in portrait format, although shown the right way up, have a completely wrong width height ratio and, unless I have missed something, there is no way of correcting that. Cheers.įollowing your comments about SMplayer, Hoser Rob, I thought I'd give it a try. ![]() You've got me interested now so I'll get back to you if I discover anything relevant and find anything on available software that might serve your purpose. I cannot remember if VLC shows thumbnails in its playlist but it might be worth you investigating.Ĭelluloid will run folders of jpg and other still image files as a filmstrip but in this instance it does not show portrait images the right way round. ![]() I have Linux Mint 20.2 XFCE so my default file manager is Thunar which shows the portrait movie's thumbnail on its side. I find Celluloid very smooth and excellent for my purposes.Ĭelluloid appears not to use thumbnails but you can set your file manager to show thumbnails if you need to see a small image of your movie file. I opted for Celluloid after a few problems with the more powerful VLN VLC video player which may not misbehave with you and offers many more options but is rather more heavy on the system. I've just tested a portrait movie taken on my phone and it shows it the right way if that's what you mean by auto rotate. It's an unpretentious program without lots of bells and whistles - its user interface is basic but it has a series of keyboard shortcuts to various functions. It is in the repository so if you haven't already got it installed you can get it via Synaptic or through the terminal.
